 A very warm welcome to our blog!  If you happened to have stumbled across this blog and more specifically, this post, let us introduce ourselves and what we do. The Lucy Irvine Foundation (LIFE) is a non-profit organisation actively reducing the suffering of dogs, cats and horses in rural Bulgaria, where we aim to transform the lives of these animals.  Headed up by Lucy Irvine, author of the best selling book Castaway, we reach the animals that need our help through daily outreach work, rescue and education. We don't receive grants for our work, and so rely completely on the generosity of kind donors to run every aspect of the Foundation, including covering our local staff's wages.  Behind the scenes, we have an international volunteer team to help consolidate, continue and expand Lucy Irvine’s already ongoing projects to help animals and their owners, in some of the poorer areas of rural Bulgaria.  Which is how this blog began :)

We'll be featuring updates and news from the Foundation as well as informative and no doubt sometimes entertaining stories from events that unfold here! We have many supporters who have a wealth of knowledge and experience, and look forward to sharing some of this in guest articles featured on this blog. A Brief Newsround - Week Ending 7/3/21

Lucy here this week to bring you a few recent highlights about life at LIFE.  The month of March in Bulgaria is represented by a granny figure called Baba Marta. She may be old but she blows hot and cold like a capricious lover, frosty at dawn, hot in the afternoon! Events at LIFE tend to echo the extremes in temperature, giving cause alternately for joy and sorrow. This week has certainly seen its quota of ups and downs. Sunday saw delightful progress in the gentle training of some of our recovered rescued horses, but Monday brought a shock when Ilia and I were heading back from a special visit to the bank in town.    No one stopped to help this poor old man and his horse except another very old man who could not lift the horse. Ilia knew exactly what needed to be done and had old dog collars in the car to patch damaged parts of the harness. The horse was shaken and must be bruised but looked relieved to be back on her feet.
